About the course. ================ The course teaches you how to use a mathematical software package (we will use Maple) to explore calculus and study mathematical models. We will use Maple for calculus in one variable, two variables, and for graphing functions, curves, surfaces, sets of points, etc. We will learn how to model physical systems with differential equations and use Maple to solve them and visualize their solutions. We will also see the LinearAlgebra and GraphTheory packages. The course will also strengthen your programming skills. We will write many simple programs involving loops and arrays. Maple ===== - All assignments and the final exam will be done in Maple. - Maple 18 is available in the assignment labs, open labs and library at SFU. - You can buy the Student edition of Maple 18 for $99 from Maplesoft ( http://www.maplesoft.com ) - For this course, older versions of Maple will be fine. - Instruction on the use of Maple will be provided by the instructor in the lab (AQ 3148.1) on Thursdays. - Help for Maple commands and operations is available from inside Maple. A set of Maple notes is available on the course website for reference. - For those of you who would like to have a printed reference for Maple I recommend "Getting Started with Maple" by Meade, May, Cheung, and Keough. Cheating Policy =============== Do not copy another students' work or copy solutions posted on the internet or elsewhere. If you do, you will get zero for the entire assignment plus an additional penalty of 10% (two grade points) for cheating. Do not give your assignment solutions to another student. If you do, and they copy them, you too will get zero for that assignment if that student is caught cheating. Please wait until your assignment has been marked before you show another student your solutions. Please do not post your solutions on the internet. If you do and I catch you I will give you zero for all assignments.
